This work is the creation of an independent gay writer-researcher, with
no funding, unaffiliated with academic institutions. I say this not by
way of apology, but simply as explanation. By 1989 I had over 5000
entries, for the dictionary so, in began late in 1989, I decided
that this was just a dictionary, and ended the first addition, at
4 am 12-20 1994 publishing the Dictionary to the web. copyright
1994 all rights reserved. The book is rough at the edges, but it is
made from a need I have to know all that is Gay. This
book has became my on going
hobby. I am always out collecting Gay slang, so I am quite
interested
in having the reader of this book send in slang. This book will be up
dated
on, a on going bases. The next major update, will include gay and
lesbian,
people that have made a contribution to our history. With historical
date.
INTRODUCTION
I began gathering information for this work 33 years ago [1972] when I first, came out into the gay community. I first came out to family, in 1964, than came out publicly, in, Tacoma Washington in 1971, I was Looking for love, and looking for a sense of who I was, where I came from, and why I existed as a gay man. I found a sense of community, and was finding the answer to those questions, in bars, discos and gay bathhouses. This was before books on gay subject started to appear. I soon developed, a love for gay history. I found a sense of power and purpose in these early years, through our history. I found love and heartbreak, in our history. I never could find anyone, or books that could tell me, the hole story of myself, and the great people of our past. We as a people also had a language of our own. In the early 1980s, I started working on a book, the title was going to be Scott international Gay Almanac, with 282 chapters, and chapter 48 was title dictionary of Gay slang. At about that time there was, a new awakening of literature, and information was changing almost daily, outdated much of my Almanac before I could go to press with it. By 1989 I had over 5000 entries, for the dictionary. at that point I could see the slang dictionary becoming a book on its own.
Gay slang is constantly evolving, with new words being added frequently, and for these reasons, we should never, forget the fabulous terms of today, and of days gone by, in the years of the past.
GAY SLANG DICTIONARY was the first to be posted to the Internet, earnings it a place in our gay history. GAY SLANG DICTIONARY is both a piece of your history, and hopefully a source of amusement. This dictionary will always be my on going project. I am pleased to see it become a source for others, that are interested in our heritage of language.
Disclaimer
Gay slang may be offensive and vulgar. Most of the vocabulary of this Dictionary comes from a adults, Environment such as gay nightclubs, gay bathhouses, and other places where gay and lesbians meet socially. Not all the words listed here are gay slang some words have come from medical terms, gay slang transformed to popular English used in every day life, other sources are drug slang , juvinile slang, and a few others that have had impact on the gay community. Some terms are very derrogatory coming from a homophobic point of view. People listed here in this dictionary have made a significant impact on modern and past gay and lesbian culture.
I do not apologise for any offence taken
from the following dictionary. you have been advised of the sexually
explicit, racist, sexist and prejudicial expressions. To omit or censor
this language, would limit telling, the whole story, of gay and lesbian
history, and that would present a false impression of current and past
linguistics.
